Frequently Asked Questions
At Clearspace Counselling, I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. Whether you're considering counselling for the first time or simply have a few questions, this page aims to provide clear and reassuring information about what to expect. I hope these frequently asked questions help you feel more informed and confident as you decide whether counselling is right for you.
What happens in the first counselling session?

How Long Does Each Session Last?
Before our first session, we'll have had a brief introductory consultation. This gives us the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any initial questions you may have, and decide whether we feel we're a good fit to work together.
Our first counselling session is then an opportunity to get to know one another in more depth. We'll explore your current circumstances, what has brought you to therapy, and what you hope to achieve through counselling. We'll also discuss how we might work together and, importantly, check that you feel comfortable working with me.
There is no pressure to share everything straight away. Counselling is a collaborative process, and we'll work at a pace that feels comfortable and appropriate for you.
Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes.
How Much Do Sessions Cost?
How often will we meet?
Sessions are £60 per 50-minute session.
Payment is made by bank transfer on or before the day of your appointment unless otherwise agreed.
Most clients attend counselling on a weekly basis, particularly at the beginning of therapy. As our work progresses, we can review this together and discuss whether a different frequency would better suit your needs.

Do You Offer Online Counselling?
Yes. I offer both online counselling and face-to-face appointments in Solihull.
Online sessions take place using a secure video platform, allowing you to access counselling from the comfort of your own home.
Is Counselling Confidential?
There is no set number of counselling sessions.
Some people find that a few sessions are enough to work through a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. We will regularly review our work together to ensure counselling continues to meet your needs.
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship.
Everything discussed during our sessions will remain confidential unless there is a legal or ethical duty to share information - for example, if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, concerns about the safety of a child or adult at risk, or where disclosure is required by law.
Wherever possible, I will always aim to discuss this with you before sharing any information.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?
What Issues Can Counselling Help With?
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You might be experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed or stuck.
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes it's simply helpful to have a safe, confidential space to explore what's going on in your life.
What if I don't know where to start?
That's completely okay.
Many people begin counselling unsure of exactly what they want to say. You don't need to have everything figured out before your first session. We will work together at your pace, and I will support you in making sense of whatever feels important to you.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, I ask that you provide at least 48 hours' notice where possible.
Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full session fee.

How Do I Get Started?
Getting started is simple.
You can contact me by email or through the contact form on my website. I'll respond as soon as I can, and we'll arrange an initial appointment where we can begin exploring what has brought you to counselling and whether I'm the right counsellor for you.
Is Counselling Right For Me?
Counselling can be helpful if you're finding life difficult, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, or wanting to better understand yourself and your experiences.
You don't need to reach a crisis point before seeking support. Many people come to counselling simply because they want a safe space to reflect, grow, and make positive changes in their lives.
If you have a question that isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have before arranging an initial consultation.
